I am really struggling to get my hours done. I have counted on getting a lot of work done during thanksgiving break when I am home, but that is slowly looking less and less likely to happen. It is really frustrating because I don’t know when else I am going to be able to find the time to volunteer. As for service here, I have had a hard time setting-up another appointment with the lady that I’ve been working with. I’ve sent e-mail after e-mail and provided plenty of ways to contact me. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find somewhere to work soon so I can iron out my remaining service hours. I’m looking forward to the digital poster project, it should be fun. My idea is to have my poster placed on possible construction sites for habitat communities to combat community fears about these neighborhoods. The background is going to primarily be a suburban landscape with several houses in the background. The goal is to express the focus that habitat places on the community and to convey this to the existing neighborhoods. While others may not approve of building low income housing in their backyard, the goal is to show that these low cost homes aren’t your typical project, but instead are a functioning community. To accomplish this, I will need people, preferably habitat homeowners, to place on top of the suburban background. In the back ground there will be a significant amount of space available to use for a title. It will probably be placed in the sky to signify a heavenly sensation. The mock-up of the poster itself will be about 8 feet long and 6-4 feet tall. This will provide significant enough size for the poster to be seen from a distance or when driving.
Hi Eric,
ReplyDeleteYour poster sounds really cool! Do you partake in habitat for humanity or other organizations that have the same goals? I am really worried about my digital poster! I am trying to think of clever ideas to get it done! I was concerned about getting my service hours done too, until recently. I would maybe check in with animal clinics or maybe try the student wellness office at Purdue! There are plenty of places if you are looking to start somewhere else! Also, on that note, there will be one more Letters from Home meeting and that will knock out approximately 2 hours! Overall, I think if you keep searching and working hard, something will pop up and you’ll get all of your hours done! Unfortunately, you may have to spend weekends doing some work. I really enjoy/don’t enjoy using my weekends for community service, but overall working on the weekends, has been really rewarding and has allowed me to get lots of hours in! Good Luck!!

You can do it Eric! Finish strong and get those hours in. You don’t want to have to take this class again, do you? :P anyway, I’m glad you’ve got a solid idea for your poster. I think it is cool how you have been able to find specific significance and set a tangible goal for your project. Mine was fairly broad and that made portions of the process more challenging.
ReplyDeleteOn size: That’s more like a banner than a poster, in my opinion but I see that you have thought through it and in the circumstances you have presented I guess that makes sense. You’re selection of topic has gotten me wondering, do you happen to now if there is significant discrimination against habitat families? I’ve had a friend or two who lived in habitat homes, and I don’t remember that, but I was younger then too.
P.S. I’m still entertained every time I see your name. I’m jealous. I wish my last name was Wucki…
